2012 has brought continual improvements in our cemetery in both the care and upkeep of our grounds. Our staff continues to develop new ideas to manage and control costs without jeopardizing our services. However, we continue to be challenged by the economic times and the changes in the needs of the families we serve.
We were very fortunate last year to have been awarded a $10,000 grant from the DRA/Mystic Casino. The funds for this grant have been used to purchase a Cemetery Global Positioning System to update and map out our historical burial and property records dating back to the founding of Linwood. This software will allow us to show families the exact location of their loved one’s graves, as well as to display vacant and available lots. The software will also help us provide families with other historical data such as pictures of the grave location, marker, obituaries, newspaper articles, and other pertinent family information.
A stipulation of the grant is to provide matching funds to be used for entering the records into the system. Once all of our paper records are computerized, we will be able to add additional personal information given to us by families of the deceased, including photos and biographical material. When completed, this project will better serve our families and perpetuate the Linwood story. This investment also saves Linwood time and expense for our staff who currently provide these services through long time consuming manual projects.
Your financial support to complete the transfer of our records is very much needed and appreciated! This data conversion, dating from the 1850’s into our current information age, will be a timely process, but once completed, will insure the preservation and safekeeping of our treasured history for generations to come.
